♪ Music plays ♪ I’m Lori and I am the executive director of
Central Minnesota Mental Health Center. We provide services to Benton, Sherburne, Stearns
and Wright Counties. We provide a comprehensive set of mental health services including, day
treatment, outpatient, chemical dependency and rehab services. About two and a half years ago we got the
opportunity for this integrative grant for mothers, well really for parents, with serious
and persistent mental illness or serious mental illness with zero to five year olds. So when
we think about integrated care, it’s having services all connected. So what’s nice is
we all communicate so everybody’s on the same page. It’s good, actually, because everybody communicates
with each other. I don’t have to say, I don’t have to tell everything to one person and
then go to the next person and then tell them everything. Because this person already knows
it and she can just go and tell everybody else. The continuum of mental health services serve
families and we have to take a multigenerational approach to make sure our families are healthy. The Central Minnesota Mental Health Center
decided to start a Circles of Security parenting support group. So we’ve had about five to
six individuals who come weekly for an hour and a half on Thursdays. The Circles of Security
parenting support group is really an opportunity to help folks be “good enough” parents, is
some of the language in the Circles of Security training. It’s really an opportunity for women
in similar situations with similar age children to get together and learn new parenting skills.
So it’s really been a neat opportunity for the women to learn something new about their
parenting skills, learn how to be a good enough parent and to be able to socialize with other
women in similar experiences. I definitely see a difference in where I was
at when I first came here. I have more knowledge of what’s going on. I just feel a lot wiser,
I guess. The integrative grant offered us an opportunity
to provide multigenerational services. That multigenerational services allows us to ensure
that the whole family is healthy, because we know when one member is suffering, it has
effects on the others, and by helping all, the whole family, we ensure a healthy community.
