Don- Build Services with Emerging Adults | Emerging Adults Seek Change in Mental Health Services

[Music] some experiences came out of like being for example a refugee and like coming here and and being able to experience some things that I didn’t have in some ba-barry for example and so being able to get connected to a community center actually got connected to it initially because I had to graduate and in order to graduate I needed these volunteer hours but after completing those volunteer hours at this community center I realized that I really loved it and working with kids and then so I applied for a job there and then started to work there like doing youth programming I was working with new generation youth center and so the youth wellness center hadn’t been established yet and that was a programmer initiative off the st. Joseph’s Healthcare Hospital in Hamilton and yeah they wanted to start up a transition age to mental health program for youth ages 16 to 25 and so they started consulting with the the youth that were coming out to the youth center that I worked at so we started to do focus groups we started to kind of nail down what it would look like and from the whole process like from like the concept concepts consult apply station to implementation youth was involved and like where it was gonna be and you decided that it would be better to have it downtown for better access because it’s an early intervention program and youth are feeling safer and with less stigma if they’re going into a place where it’s youth friendly yeah it was a really successful project that’s now up and running and youth were involved in like basically almost all the interviews and now that those Youth Council running there so that’s a example of yeah a hospital working really well with the community agency and also partnering with them
