This project is about trying to increase confidence
talking about sex And to better meet patients’
sexual expression needs The outcomes have been
that patients have said that they’re more confident
to talk about sex Staff are more willing to talk to patients
about sex in care plans etc And at a population level,
we have had 12/16 patients on one ward tested for STIs These patients are soon to be discharged We know that they are now going back
into communities free of any sexually transmitted disease There’s such a taboo And we have to recognise as professionals
our own discomfort and where that comes from and then put our personal feelings aside
for our professional obligations
