Sue Mitchell, heart attack survivor — DON’T DIE OF DOUBT

YOU KNOW THE DAY I HAD MY HEART ATTACK THINGS HAS BEEN BUILDING FOR A WHILE AND I JUST KEPT MAKING EXCUSES AS WHY I WAS FEELING SO SLUGGISH AND TIRED AND THE NIGHT BEFORE THE HEART ATTACK I WAS HAVING CHEST PAINS AND I JUST MADE EXCUSES BUT THE DAY OF THE HEART ATTACK THINGS GOT MORE SERIOUS AS THE DAY PROGRESSED
MOST OF MINE WAS IN MY SHOULDER AND MY JAW WAS JUST KILLING ME
ONCE THE PAIN HAD GOTTEN MORE SEVERE IN MY CHEST THE RADIATING HAD HAPPENED I DECIDED
THAT MAYBE IT WAS TIME FOR ME TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT
I PICKED MY PHONE UP AND GOOGLED WOMEN’S SYMPTOMS WHEN I PULLED THAT UP THE THING THAT I FOUND OUT AND REALIZED WAS ABOUT HALF OF THE WOMEN DIE BECAUSE THEY DON’T GET THERE
IN TIME AND WHAT I THOUGHT AT THAT TIME WAS IF I DON’T MAKE MY WAY TO THE HOSPITAL NOW
MY SOON TO BE HUSBAND WAS GOING TO HAVE TO DEAL WITH ME MAYBE IN A CRIPPLED STATE OR
I’M GOING TO DIE I JUMPED IN THE CAR AND I THOUGHT WELL I’LL
JUST DRIVE MYSELF INTO THE HOSPITAL AND I GOT PARTWAY THERE AND I WASN’T GOING TO
MAKE IT I KNEW THAT IT WAS GOING TO BE DANGEROUS FOR SOMEBODY ELSE IF I WERE TRYING TO DRIVE
IN THAT STATE THE CHEST PAINS WERE CRUSHING AT THAT POINT
I THOUGHT OK I HAVE MY PHONE IN MY HAND I NEED TO DIAL 911 I KNOW I NEED PROFESSIONAL
HELP AT THAT POINT. I KNEW IF I DIDN’T MAKE THAT CALL RIGHT THEN AND THERE THEY WERE GOING TO FIND ME DEAD IN MY CAR I MADE MYSELF DIAL 911 IT DIDN’T TAKE VERY
LONG BEFORE MEDSTAR WAS THERE AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT
MEDSTAR GOT ME INTO THE AMBULANCE, HAD ME CHEW BABY ASPIRIN, GAVE ME NITROGLYCERIN,
STARTED AN IV, DID AN EKG AND SENT ALL OF MY INFORMATION DOWN TO PLAZA MEDICAL CENTER
THEY GOT ME THERE IN A VERY QUICK TIME, GOT ME TAKEN CARE OF, GOT A STENT IN ABOUT 22
MINUTES AND I HAD VERY LITTLE DAMAGE BECAUSE OF THAT
GOT REAL FORTUNATE THAT THE DAMAGE WAS VERY MINIMAL I HAVE ABOUT 10 PERCENT DAMAGE AND
I’M GOING TO LIVE A FULL LIFE BECAUSE OF EVERYONE’S FAST ACTION
