What is the biopsychosocial model of psychology?

There are psychological
researchers who do a lot of work just on the brain and how it
functions and neuroscience and genetics and epigenetics. There’s a lot of psychological
work going on there. There are psychologists who
focus more on the individual and their behaviour
and understanding that. And then there are psychologists
who look at the individual in their social context and looking
at behaviour in terms of the impact not on the
individual, but also on their social relationships. So psychologists’ work really
cuts across the whole lifespan from pre-birth to death, but
also cuts across functioning from a biological and biochemical
aspect to the psychological and social and cultural
aspects as well. So I think psychologists are
ideally placed to understand how individuals are functioning
in their social environment and the extent
to which they’re, you know, living the life
that they want to live.
